Andalucía, in southern Spain, is one of the most desirable safe destinations in the world to visit in 2021. In fact, travelers from Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany consider Andalucía their favorite destination for their holidays this year, according to a study of the Ministry of Tourism on the intention to travel in 2021.

The report analyzes the perception of safety of tourists about Andalucía to enjoy the experiences and activities they seek to carry out on their trips.

Herd immunity before July 2021

This high assessment of Andalucía as a safe destination is supported by the optimal Covid health indices that show a decrease since April in the number of new infections * and hospital admissions, as well as a very notable increase in the rate of vaccination **.

According to the president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno Bonilla, at the inauguration this May 19 of the International Tourism Fair, FITUR 2021, the forecast is that by June 30, 75% of Andalusians will be immunized.

Free travel insurance with Covid coverage

The report also collects the opinion of travelers on the existing Covid-19 protocols in Andalucía. It should be noted that Andalucía has had a health passport since January through a QR code and a badge called 'Andalucía Segura', which identifies all companies in the tourism and hospitality sector (hotels, restaurants, camping, hostels, tourist information offices , etc) that comply with the security measures on Covid-19. There is also an official practical guide of recommendations aimed at the tourism sector.

In addition, there is free medical insurance with Covid-19 coverage for non-resident foreign tourists who travel to Andalucía by any means of transport between January 1 and December 31, 2021. The only condition to benefit from this insurance is to stay in a regulated establishment (hotels, tourist apartments, pensions, hostels, aparthotels, campsites and rural houses).

This insurance covers medical, surgical and hospitalization expenses for Covid-19, transportation and repatriation and the costs derived from an extension of stay due to quarantine for all international tourists, without age limits. In addition, the beneficiaries will have at their disposal a 'call center' to be attended 24 hours a day in several languages.

Current status

The state of emergency in Spain ended on May 9, 2021 but some measures remain in force. In Andalucía, bars, cafes, restaurants and shops can open until midnight. There is no curfew or restriction of mobility between cities, provinces and other regions of Spain. The use of the mask, for now, is mandatory. Outdoor and sitting festivals and celebrations have been resumed under a protocol of security measures.

In figures, the incidence rate in the last 14 days is 165.4 / 100,000 inhabitants in Andalucía as a whole. In this link you can follow the Evolution of the coronavirus in Andalucía.

Measures for safe tourism

Furthermore, the Andalusian government has been implementing a series of measures in tourism and leisure activities, to enable enjoyment of a peaceful holiday:

  • Capacity control for each establishment and activity
  • Safety measures on the beaches (informative posters have been installed at the entrances on the specific, preventive, safety and use measures of the beaches, as well as the maximum capacity allowed)
  • Guide to good practices in hygiene measures
  • Control Plan to guarantee indoor air quality
  • Reinforced Cleaning and Disinfection Plan

Safe air corridor

This setting allows tourists to enjoy a safe and quiet experience, stay or vacation in Andalucía. Tourism is a strategic sector in Andalucía and represents 13% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In 2019 Andalucía received 32.5 million visitors. The pandemic reduced the number to 13.3 million in 2020.

Most of the hotels in Andalucía have already opened. The official forecast for 2021 is optimistic in light of the reactivation of tourist activity, the low incidence rate and the speed of the vaccination rate. For this reason, the Andalusian government has demanded that the Spanish government include Andalucía in the safe air corridors with tourist-sending countries for the summer.

Already positioned as a safe destination worldwide, Andalucía now depends on the decisions of the countries regarding international mobility. Citizens of certain countries, including the United Kingdom, are permitted to enter since 24th May 2021 without the need for any health certificate.

Andalucía: a destination to excite you!

Andalucía is widely known in the world for its vast and diverse tourist offer that makes it competitive as a destination in the international market: beaches, nature, golf, charming towns, culture, heritage, gastronomy, etc.
However, the added value of Andalucía lies in what is not seen, in what is felt. For this reason, it has come to FITUR 2021 to present itself to the world as "an ideal place to create emotions".
That has been the official slogan of the Junta de Andalucía to present a powerful tourist bet based on proposals and experiences to live Andalucía. You can explore them and start enjoying them in this link to the public entity of Tourism of Andalucía.
