Are you moving to Andalusia and want to bring your pet? A pet is an important part of a person's life and another member of the family. If you have a dog, a cat or another pet and you are going to move from a foreign country to any region of Spain, you are interested in knowing that, like humans, they must meet a series of legal requirements and previously have specific documentation to enter in Spanish territory.
Restrictions
For the transport and transfer of pets from foreign countries to Andalusia there are several restrictions:
- Dogs, cats and ferrets less than 3 months old cannot travel
- Pets from Latin America cannot enter Spain if they are under 7 months. This limitation applies depending on the country of origin of the pet.
In Andalucia, there is also an Animal Protection Law and regulations on compulsory treatments for companion animals in Andalusia.
Requirements and documentation
- The pet must have an identification microchip installed that complies with the regulations and allows it to be read at the place of entry to Spain through Andalucia or another region
- The rabies vaccine is mandatory and in force at the time of travel. To be valid it is necessary that at least 21 days have passed.
- The pet owner must provide a pet vaccination certificate, an international pet health certificate and a pet export sanitary permit
- If the transfer is from a country of the European Union, you must have a European passport for the movement of pets. For pets from these countries, the fields related to serological test, Echinoccoccus treatment, antiparasitic treatment, other vaccines, clinical tests and legalization will not be mandatory in your passport.
- If the pet comes from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Finland or Norway, in the case of dogs, they must be treated against E. multilocularis.
