The support of the people, its famous gastronomic treasures, its exceptional climate, the exceptional nature of the Doñana natural park, the legendary horse races on the beach and the hospitality of the Sanluqueños have been the arguments for which the jury has opted by this Andalusian city over other competitors from the rest of Spain.

The main signs of gastronomic identity of Sanlúcar de Barrameda are its prawn dish "langostino" and the Manzanilla. The Quality Mark ‘Langostino de Sanlúcar’ has been consolidated as the guarantee of a unique product and identity of the city. It stands out for its unmistakable flavour and is consumed mainly fresh but also cooked, fried or as an ingredient in any traditional seafood stew. La Manzanilla, for its part, is endorsed by the Denomination of Origin "Manzanilla de Sanlúcar" that since 1964 supervises the benefits of this fragrant wine and is also part of the Denomination of Origin Jerez.

In this way, Sanlúcar de Barrameda will be the first Gastronomic Capital that does not hold the provincial capital. Its declaration as a benchmark for Spanish cuisine next year will coincide with the programming of events planned for the Commemoration of the V Centenary of the First Around the World by Magellan and Elcano.

Sanlúcar has about 70,000 inhabitants, 320 days of sunshine a year, 6 kilometers of beaches, 21 traditional wineries and 7,000 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the Andalusian cities with the greatest culinary tradition and a gastronomic tourist destination at the national level. The Plaza del Cabildo and Bajo de Guía are the two most popular areas of the city for tapas and tasting Sanlúcar cuisine. The gastronomic headquarters of the gastronomic Capital will be the Mercado de Abastos, a point of commercialization and confluence of consumers and local cuisine products.

Check out some of the most popular Sanlúcar restaurants here.

The Cadiz town of Sanlúcar de Barrameda will hold the title of Spanish Capital of Gastronomy in 2022, the largest gastronomic promotion platform in our country.
