Andalucia has taken a step forward to be an international destination for teleworkers and has launched the 'Digital Nomads' campaign to attract this profile of professionals who are already very numerous in Andalusian cities such as Malaga.

Aware of the opportunity that digital nomads represent to seasonally adjust tourism and attract talent to the destination, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports has invested 950,000 euros in an expanded campaign that focuses on three segments: workers under 40 who they can work remotely from countries other than those of their company or clients; senior officials and executives looking for a place to establish their residence in the south of Spain for several months a year; and retirees or warmth-seeking nomads, who can find in Andalucia a warmer, more comfortable and cheaper alternative to live in the cold months of the year in an economic context of inflation and rising energy prices.

Precisely the climate, the quality of life, the lifestyle and the presence of a community with similar interests are some of the reasons why many foreign nomads choose to come to Andalucia to work remotely. Added to this is the security of the destination and the excellent deployment of fiber optics in most of the Andalusian territory. These arguments are also valid for many European citizens who, after years of holidays in Andalusia, decided to buy a second residence.

Focusing on the UK and Germany

The 'Digital Nomads' campaign will run until April 2023 and will affect citizens of countries such as the United Kingdom or Germany (both with a strong presence of large companies and technology firms that enable remote work), as well as others such as the Netherlands, France, Ireland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden, "all of them with winters marked by low temperatures and which, in turn, have large technological multinationals that fit the profile of workers who are aspired to." to attract Andalusia”, explained the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Arturo Bernal.

The Board thus joins other regions such as the Canary Islands or the Valencian Community that drew up similar measures at the beginning of autumn to captivate the so-called warmth-seeking nomads in the face of the escalation in the price of energy and the arrival of cold weather in Europe.

Foreigners with a house in Andalucia

Likewise, the promotional action of the Board is directed, in addition, to foreign citizens who have a second residence in Andalucia, who are invited to establish it as their habitual residence.

The incentives of the Andalusian government to attract these groups are focused on the low-tax measures recently implemented in Andalucia and the airport connections with Europe, which allow Andalucia to be linked with numerous European cities in two or three hours.

Attracting these segments of travelers would mean more tourist activity in mid and low season, more quality tourism linked to long stays and high average spending and, therefore, a notable impact on the economy and employment in Andalucia. Through this campaign, the Andalucía brand will be present in ten international tourist markets and the official forecast is to exceed 115 million impacts and more than 29 million hits.

From now on, Andalucia is going to be talked about more in countries like the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands or Denmark, and not only as a holiday destination but as a paradise for working remotely or enjoying the winter.
